Corner House

Corner House is a traditional cottage occupying a prominent position in the centre of Llancarfan, immediately beside Great House. The historic landscape assessment describes it as a 19th-century cottage with a symmetrical façade, although the building has been considerably altered over the years. Its original appearance was rather different from today: it had small-paned timber windows, a central porch and a thatched roof, the latter being replaced by slate, as happened with many cottages in the Vale of Glamorgan. The house is included in the Vale of Glamorgan's list of locally important historic buildings.

Corner House is particularly interesting because it helps demonstrate the social and architectural development of old Llancarfan. Historic research places it among the smaller cottages of the village, contrasting with the substantially larger Great House next door, which was associated with the upper yeoman or farming class. The two buildings are described as being linked and occupying a central position in the village, close to the church, lanes and the Nant Llancarfan. Its original thatched roof and modest scale would have given it the character of a traditional rural cottage, while its later alterations reflect the gradual changes that took place in Llancarfan during the 19th and 20th centuries.
